our thoughts on the new apple iphone x

what are your thoughts on the new iphone x?

When Steve Jobs released the first iPhone ten years ago, it felt like riding a roller coaster into the future.

A few weeks ago, we felt that same feeling again. This time with the iPhone X.

Fortunately for us, we were patient enough to wait for the long lines and crowds to die down so we can just walk in and get ours without the hassle of pushing and shoving to get our hands on one. Throwing it back to 2007, when the first iPhone came out – sure I was excited to have it, as Jobs said “the internet in my pocket” and a “wide screen iPod” and a “revolutionary mobile phone” all packed into one device. After that, Apple rode their way to the top of the food chain.

here’s a quick summary on things that brought us great joy from the iphone x:

Portrait mode, and now it’s on the front-facing camera! What we love about portrait mode are the lighting settings that behave like RAW files in that they can be applied after capturing the shot. Facial recognition is really impressive, and a big step-up for Apple. There have been a few occasions where it would hiccup and not open immediately, but that was rare and we’re sure Apple will perfect the feature in the coming months (It even works in the dark! Isn’t that cool?) The OLED display is insanely gorgeous. The contrast is unlike anything we’ve ever seen on a mobile device. The overall design and curvature of the iPhone is stunning. It humanizes the device so it feels more like you’re actually holding your photos and videos in your hands, rather than on a device on which you can view them.

the perfect device? no device is perfect.

We don’t mean to burst Steve Jobs bubble, but no device is perfect (Even if this one comes pretty close to it) Anyways, we haven’t played with the wireless charging feature yet, but we’ve been pondering on a few things about it. How easy / ubiquitous will charging be, and how fast? How much stronger is the new glass compared to the previous models? We’ll just have to wait and see what Apple will do, but we like the direction Apple is headed in.

what everyone’s been waiting for… specs!
